Prep boys basketball: Manistique falls at Harbor Springs in Class C district
HARBOR SPRINGS – Manistique Emeralds head coach Todd Kangas was expecting a good team in his Class C boys basketball district opener at Harbor Springs, Monday night. What he wasn’t expecting was a team that shot the lights out.
The Rams (7-14), with a red-hot shooting performance rolled to a 74-49 victory, boosted by nine three-pointers and a 27 point third quarter.
“They shot about 50 percent from the floor. That’s a pretty good night for those guys,” Kangas said. “I thought we did a good job in the first quarter. We were down by three, then right before the half they hit a 3-pointer at the half-court before the buzzer. That was a big swing for them, and they shot the lights out in the third for 27 points.”
Senior Tyler Kangas scored 20 points to lead the Emeralds (1-20).
“Tyler’s been pretty consistent and he played pretty good tonight. We just couldn’t match them point-wise,” said coach Kangas, who noted the game was a clean one turnover-wise for both teams. “They were a pretty good team, no doubt about it. Better probably than their record would indicate.”
