Michael D. Nutini
HANCOCK TOWNSHIP, MI. – Michael D. Nutini, 67, a resident of Hancock Township and Marquette, died on Thursday, February, 27, 2014, as the result of a motor vehicle accident on M-203.
He was born in Hancock, Mich., on February 24, 1947, a son of Julio and Dorothy (Marinelli) Nutini. He attended the Hancock Public Schools and was a 1965 graduate of the Hancock Central High School.
Mike lived in Minneapolis for a time before entering into the U.S. Army in 1967. He served during the Vietnam Conflict with the 101st Airborne Division. He was very proud of his military service.
Upon moving to Marquette, he was employed by Cleveland Cliffs and the Army Corps of Engineers at K.I. Sawyer Air Base. Later, he was a self employed contractor in the Marquette area and also owned rental properties. At the time of his death, he was preparing to move permanently into his new home on Lake Superior in Hancock Township.
Mike’s first love was his two children, Christian and Santino; and his life partner, Susan. Along with volunteerism, particularly pertaining to his children’s education, Mike loved walking the shore of his much loved Lake Superior. He will be remembered for his generous heart, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who came his way. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Mike was a member of the Church of the Resurrection of Hancock and was very devoted to his faith. He was also a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, the Disabled American Veterans and the Copper Country Elks Lodge 404 of Calumet.
Mike is survived by his mother, Dorothy Nutini of Hancock; two sons, Christian (Amanda Hagerl) of Marquette and Santino at home; his life partner, Susan Hartfield of Hancock, and her daughter Rachel Hartfield; a brother, Bob (Paula) Nutini of the Hancock Canal area; two nieces, Gina Nutini of Mt. Pleasant, Mich. and Bella Nutini of the Hancock Canal area; numerous cousins and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Julio; and a brother, Tony.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, in the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock, with Fr. William Ssozi to officiate. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday at the church. Spring interment with military rites will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorials be made to Santino Nutini’s education fund (please direct gifts as follows: Santino Nutini c/o Susan Hartfield, 1112 Cottage Row, Hancock, MI, 49930) or to the charity of one’s choice in the memory of Michael D. Nutini.
