Prep boys basketball: Marquette’s Nyquist, Burnette III make All-GNC First Team

ESCANABA – Senior Brandon Robinette of Escanaba and senior Andrew Nyquist of Marquette Senior High School went head-to-head in voting for Great Northern Conference Offensive Most Valuable Player honors in boys basketball.

When balloting by the league’s coaches were totaled, Robinette – a center – took the nod 3-2 in results announced Wednesday.

A point guard, Nyquist still led the First Team. Teammate Larry Burnette III, a senior forward, joined Nyquist on the First Team, as well as being named the GNC Defensive MVP.

MSHS senior guard Brad Brow gained a spot on the Second Team, as did Marquette junior center Vejas Grazulis.

Connor Brazeau, an MSHS junior forward, earned honorable mention status.

The All-GNC list:

Offensive MVP – Brandon Robinette, senior, Escanaba.

Defensive MVP – Larry Burnette III, senior, Marquette.

First Team – Andrew Nyquist, senior, and Larry Burnette III, senior, Marquette; Devon Harris, senior, Menominee; Sam Molnar, junior, Escanaba; Jared Hunter, senior, Gladstone.

Second Team – Brad Brow, senior, and Vejas Grazulis, junior, Marquette; Adam Nolde, sophomore, Menominee; Jamie Hiltunen, senior, Escanaba; and Dan Harrington, junior, Kingsford.

Special mention (two or more votes) – Tyler Wells, Gladstone; Ben Kleiman, Escanaba; and Jack Glodowski and Lucas Jennings, Kingsford.

Honorable mention – Connor Brazeau, Marquette; Max Mahoney and David Dykowski, Gladstone; and Jordan Ogren, Escanaba.
