Hancock man dies in fire

HANCOCK – A Hancock man died Friday after an alleged domestic assault and arson at his house that afternoon.

Hancock Police Chief Mike Beaudoin said the man allegedly assaulted his girlfriend Friday, then allegedly set a fire in the house about 5 p.m.

Houghton County Sheriff’s Department deputies went into the house with ballistic shields, where they found the man had allegedly assaulted his girlfriend.

Both were taken to Portage Health. The woman had been hit in the head and had visible bleeding, Beaudoin said. The condition of the woman is unknown.

The Hancock Police did not release the names or ages of the people involved.
