NMU Nordic skiing: Six Wildcats heading to NCAA Championships
MARQUETTE – Six Northern Michigan University Nordic skiers – three men and three women – were officially selected Monday to compete in the NCAA Championships on March 6 and 8 at Soldier Hallow Resort in Midway, Utah.
Junior Kyle Bratrud, freshman Adam Martin and freshman Fredrik Schwencke will represent the Wildcats’ men’s team while senior Rosie Frankowski, sophomore Mary Kate Cirelli and sophomore Hannah Boyer will represent the NMU women in Utah.
The NCAA only permits teams to send three male and three female Nordic skiers.
As men’s and women’s champions of both the Central Collegiate Ski Association and NCAA Central Region, NMU is the only school in the CCSA to send the maximum allotment of skiers.
The NCAA championship for the men’s 10-kilometer and women’s 5K classic races will take place on March 6, followed by the women’s 15K and men’s 20K freestyle races on March 8.
NMU is only eligible for individual titles at the NCAA Championships because it does not have an Alpine ski team. The NCAA combines points from the Nordic and Alpine events to declare one overall ski champion.
