City Insurance wins NIHL playoffs title

MARQUETTE – A 3-1 win over Alpena in the championship game in Sault Ste. Marie on Feb. 16 gave the Marquette City Insurance Sentinels Pee Wee AA hockey team the Northern International Hockey League playoffs title.

Marquette’s Sean O’Connor scored twice and Jon Jason added a single marker for the Sentinels (35-19-7). Picking up assists were Lucas Guertin and Russ Modell. Tyler Bergwall made 36 saves in goal.

Feb. 15, Marquette tied Calumet, 4-4, behind two goals and an assist by Gaetano Cammarata. Luke Beerman added a goal and an assist, while Jakob Peterson chipped in a single marker. Also picking up assists were Cooper Anderson (2), Chris Sliva and Thomas Dunleavy. Saves for Bergwall were unavailable.

That morning, City Insurance defeated Mackinaw City, 4-2. Beerman recorded a goal and two assists, while Anderson had a goal and an assist. Notching single tallies were Cammarata and Karsten Kamps. Adding assists were Dunleavy and Brent Kroll; Bergwall made 20 saves.

Feb. 14, the Sentinels and Alpena tied, 4-4, as Beerman had two goals and a helper. Cammarata posted a goal and an assist, while Peyton Anderson scored a lone goal. Adding assists in the game were Cooper Anderson and Sliva, each with one. Bergwall came up with 23 stops.
