Prep boys basketball: Marquette jumps all over Iron Mountain
MARQUETTE – Sinking more than 50 percent of their shots from the field, the Marquette Senior High School basketball Redmen bounced visiting Iron Mountain Wednesday night, 64-28, in a non-conference game.
The Class ABC No. 2-ranked Redmen, now 15-1 overall, canned 24 of 46 shots for 52 percent.
“We got some easy transition baskets,” MSHS coach Brad Nelson said.
Andrew Nyquist and Brad Brow scored 14 points apiece to pace the Redmen. Larry Burnette III added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
“Iron Mountain threw different defenses at us early,” Nelson said. “We adjusted and did a better job (offensively) in quarters two through four.”
Marquette led 35-20 at the half, then outscored the Mountaineers (9-9) by a 14-2 count in the third quarter to put the game on ice.
“Our pressure defense on the perimeter gave them some problems,” Nelson said. “It was tough for Iron Mountain to get into any rhythm.”
Mark Beauchamp led the Mountaineers with 10 points.
