Deer hunters to rally in Escanaba

ESCANABA – Wildlife game species management and habitat issues in the Upper Peninsula will be the sole focus of a rally and meeting this weekend in Escanaba for hunters and general members of the Upper Peninsula Sportsmen’s Alliance.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. EST Saturday at the Heirman Center at Bay College.

Several topics will be discussed and hunter opinions will be solicited. Among the items to be considered are U.P. land ownership and activity, land-based priorities, opportunity versus achievable goals and objectives, on-the-ground management versus office management, habitat for game species and games species predator control.

UPSA Committee Chairman Rory Mattson urged sportsmen’s groups and the general public to attend the rally, which is being organized by the alliance’s forestry and wildlife committee.

“Please try and attend this important meeting and please invite your total membership and other general public hunters from the U.P.,” Mattson said in a statement. “We are looking for input from a large sample (majority) of the hunters in the U.P.”
