Prep hockey: Negaunee beat in Calumet 8-1

CALUMET – Giving up four goals in the opening period, the Negaunee High School hockey team wound up losing to host Calumet Thursday night, 8-1.

“We tried a couple of new things against them, but made some mistakes early,” NHS coach Darrel Sleeman said. “Calumet beat us on a lot of 1-on-1 situations.”

The Bulldogs got three goals and two assists from Robert Erkkila.

Cody Wetton notched a third period marker for Negaunee (6-17).

“Our struggle all year has been to get the puck in the net,” Sleeman said. “If we get some offense, we have a chance to win.”
