Prep girls basketball: Negaunee girls give it a rest, fall to Gladstone

NEGAUNEE – With some players given a break before a key Mid-Peninsula Conference game Friday, the host Negaunee High School girls basketball team fell to nonconference foe Gladstone Wednesday night, 51-22.

“We played (Tuesday night) and with a big game vs. Westwood Friday, we made the decision to mix our lineup and rest some people,” NHS head coach Brandon Sager said.

“Our core group of players were very fatigued and we’re looking to Friday.”

Ashley Tresedder led the Miners (10-7) with six points and four rebounds.

Lexi Hongisto notched 10 points for Gladstone (11-6). Bridget Becker added nine.

Negaunee led 14-12 after one quarter, but managed just eight points the rest of the game. The Braves held a 24-17 advantage at the half and were up 40-20 after three quarters.

“(The Braves) played their normal trapping defense with some zone,” Sager said. “We didn’t do very much.”
