Prep girls basketball: Mustangs spread out scoring in win
MUNISING – With nine Mustangs scoring, it was a team effort that gave the host Munising High School girls basketball team the edge over Big Bay de Noc for a 47-29 win on Saturday.
“We were able to spread the minutes out, which is important to be able to do in this tough stretch of the season,” Mustangs coach Matt Mattson said. “It was a good team win for us.”
With the league win, Munising advances to 6-1 in the Central Upper Peninsula Conference and 11-4 overall, while Big Bay drops to 2-8 and 3-11.
The Mustangs outscored the Black Bears 12-2 in the first quarter to set the pace for the game and held Big Bay to just seven field goals on the night.
Freshman Marissa Immel led Munising with 11 points, followed by freshman Frankie Mattson with 10. For the Black Bears, Samantha Fundling had a team-high 12 points.
