Prep swimming: Westwood, Ishpeming-Negaunee win at Polar Plunge

NEGAUNEE – Westwood’s girls and the Ishpeming-Negaunee boys captured Polar Plunge team titles Wednesday in prep swimming held at Negaunee High School.

The Westwood girls posted 88.5 points to beat I-N (62.5) and Manistique (53). Emma Taras won two individual events for WHS, the 50-yard butterfly (33.35) and the 50 backstroke (35.10). She also swam on the Patriots’ winning 200 medley relay unit (2:20.72).

In the boys’ meet. I-N came up with 105 points to defeat Westwood (68) and Manistique (44).

Ricky Peterson and Joe Nault won individual events and competed on two winning relay squads for I-N, the 200 medley relay (2:02.71) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:46.0).
