Prep boys basketball: Ishpeming whips Manistique

MANISTIQUE – Outscoring host Manistique 25-6 in the opening quarter, the Ishpeming High School boys basketball team went on to post an 81-40 Mid-Peninsula Conference triumph over the Emeralds on Wednesday.

“We shot well early – we hit five 3-point shots right off the bat,” IHS coach Jeff Olson said after his team had improved to 10-2 overall and 5-1 in M-PC play.

“It was good to shoot as well as we did early after a long bus ride. (Manistique) left us open for some 3s early and we were able to knock them down.”

Bobby Zhulkie led the Hematites with 12 points. Ozzy Corp added 11 and Alex Briones chipped in 10 points and a team-high five rebounds.

Dylan Strasser paced the Emeralds (1-12, 0-9) with 12 points.
