OK Industrial goes on offense in sweep

NEGAUNEE – The OK Industrial Squirt team from the Iron Range Hockey Association swept a pair of games at the Negaunee Ice Arena recently from the Dickinson Area Hockey Association’s Hospitalists team, 10-2 and 11-3.

Nico Lukkarinen and Jacob Jestila each had three-goal hat tricks for OK in the opener as teammates Caleb Ackley, Trey Gee, Kaitlyn Williams and Connor O’Dovero had single goals. O’Dovero and Gee each added two assists as Tristen Tadgerson was in net to get the win.

In Game 2, Ackley knocked in five goals while O’Dovero had a pair and Williams, Jestila, Lukkarinen and Gee added one each. Jestila also had four assists, O’Dovero and Lukkarinen two each and Tadgerson and Zach Ryynanen were among those with one. Carter Helsten was in net to get the win.

Sentinels take 2

in one day

The City Insurance Pee Wee AA Sentinels of Marquette improved to 30-18-5 after winning a pair of games on Jan. 26 at Eagle River, Wis., 8-2 and 7-2.

In the morning opener, Luke Beerman had a three-goal hat trick and an assist for the Sentinels, while teammate Peyton Anderson added two goals, Karsten Kamps a goal and an assist, and Jon Jason and Gaetano Cammarata each single goals. Sean O’Connor and Thomas Dunleavy were credited with two assists apiece, while Brent Kroll, Chris Sliva and Jakob Peterson all had one assist.

Tyler Bergwall made 27 saves in the Marquette goal.

In the afternoon, Beerman added another two goals and two assists, while Anderson had two goals and O’Connor a goal and an assist. Jason and Cooper Anderson each contributed a goal, while Russ Modell were among those with an assist.

Bergwall stopped 18 shots in this victory.

With a record of 11-7-2 in the Northern International Hockey League, the Sentinels host the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association’s District 8 tournament this weekend, Jan. 31-Feb. 2, and open play against Iron Mountain at 10 a.m. Friday. Also competing will be Calumet, Escanaba and Houghton.

The champion advances to the MAHA state tourney from March 14-16 in downstate Lapeer.

Wells Fargo U14

girls swept

The Eagle River, Wis., Northern Aces came to Marquette and swept the Marquette Wells Fargo Under-14 girls team recently.

Eagle River scored 3-1 and 2-1 victories after Marquette swept the Wisconsin team at their rink a month earlier.

Alexis White scored both of Wells Fargo’s goals with assists credited to Lexi Anderson, Paris Wegleitner and Julia Johnson. Briana Holman made 36 saves over two games in the Marquette net.
