Prep swimming: Marquette routs dual meet against Gladstone
MARQUETTE – With numerous swimmers posting personal best times, the Marquette Senior High School boys and girls swimming and diving teams had little trouble beating visiting Gladstone on Wednesday.
The Redmen beat the Braves, 117-64, while the Redettes posted a 114-69 triumph.
“(We) had 32 swimmers (post) a total of 58 personal best times,” MSHS head coach Nathan McFarren said. “That’s almost unheard of.
“I’m very proud of our teams. They knew they were facing tough competition and they rose to the occasion with some great performances.”
Sam Williams and Andrew Kilpela paced the MSHS boys with two individual triumphs apiece. Williams took the 200-yard freestyle in 2 minutes, 2.34 seconds. He also won the 50 freestyle (24.56). Kilpela won the 100 freestyle (55.16) and 100 backstroke (59.50). Both also swam on a winning MSHS relay unit.
For the MSHS girls, Lyndsey Welch and Janelle Carroll won two events each. Welch claimed the 200 IM (2:29.72) and 100 breaststroke (1:18.47); Carroll the 200 freestyle (2:13.10) and 500 freestyle (5:57.19). Both also swam a leg on two victorious relay units.
