Dennis K. Johnson

MARQUETTE, MI. – Dennis K. Johnson, 68, of Marquette, died Saturday morning, January 25, 2014, at his home, surrounded by family and under the care of Lake Superior Hospice, following a battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS).

He was born February 13, 1945, in Bates Township, MI, a son of the late Ener and Emily (Budzak) Johnson. Dennis was a 1963 graduate of Stambaugh High School and earned a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Ferris State University in 1967.

On March 25, 1967 he married Ruth Ann Lundin in Stambaugh, MI. Dennis went to work as an accountant in the US Accounting Office in Detroit. He was drafted into the US Army in 1968 and served two years stationed in Panama. Dennis then worked as an accountant for Allstate Insurance Company in Chicago and for Caspian Construction Company before taking a job with Northern Stationers as a buyer/bidder.

After his children grew and left the house, Dennis set off on a new career as an over-the-road truck driver for AM Express out of Escanaba retiring in May of 2011 to start his own landscaping business called Yardscapes. Dennis loved bird hunting and owning springer-spaniels.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Johnson of Marquette; daughters, Lisa (Jeff) Branam of Marquette, Carla (Kevin) Bryfczyinski of Pulaski, WI and Lana (Wade) Lafreniere of Negaunee; 9 grandchildren and a great-grandchild; a brother, Curt (Roseann) Johnson of Manitowoc, WI; and nieces & nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Arlene Holdorf, mother and father-in-law, Eleanor & Edward Lundin and a brother-in-law, Howard Lundin.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 12 Noon in the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Tooman officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

A luncheon will follow the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place in the Iron River Cemetery at a later date.
