Lacosses dominate snow drags in Ontonagon

ONTONAGON – Led by the Lacosse family, several area competitors won races at an Upper Peninsula Championship Snow Drags snowmobile racing event held in Ontonagon on Jan. 6.

Matt Lacosse of Champion won the Pro Mod 500 and Pro Mod 600 at the Ontonagon County Economic Partnership races, while his sons, Nathan and Carter Lacosse, each won a 120cc Champions event for racers ages 4-9.

Matt Lacosse added a runner-up finish in the Trail Stock 600 and third place in the Pro Mod 700.

Shay Thompson of Gwinn also posted two victories in the Trail Stock 800 and Race Stock Open events, while adding second places in the Pro Mod 600 and Pro Mod 700.

Heather Lynn Maki of L’Anse took the Super V race and was runner-up in the V-8.

Matt Lacosse has won most Masters Racing Circuit Snow Drag races than any other driver in the circuit’s 15-year history, according to Masters racing circuit President Skip Schulz of Ontonagon.

Next on the circuit’s 11-date schedule is the Snow Drags in Sagola on Feb. 1, which will be part of the Sagola Sportsman Club Tip Up Town. The circuit will complete its schedule this season at Marquette Mountain on April 5, and will also hold Hillcross there on April 6.
