2014 Noquemanon Ski Marathon: Weekend wraps up with 12K Animoosh Skijor, 24K snow bike and 10K snowshoe races
MARQUETTE – The 2014 Noquemanon Ski Marathon weekend wrapped up Sunday in Marquette with the Wild Side of the Noque’s three races – the 24-kilometer snow bike, 12K Animoosh Skijor and 10K snowshoe.
Marquette’s Jason Vayre won the 24K snow bike race from Plum Creek to the Superior Dome in 1 hour, 12 minutes, 13 seconds, edging out Scott Veldhuizen of Green Bay by three seconds. Ryan Grim of Marquette took third in 1:12:51.9.
Betsy Schnell of downstate Boyne Falls was the lone female participant, clocking in at 1:53:35.1.
In the Animoosh Skijor 12K from the Forestville Trailhead to the Superior Dome, Richard Kisseloff of Algonquin, Ill., won the men’s two-dog race in 26:58.9 and Adrian Swanson of Minneapolis won the one-dog race in 28:31.8.
On the women’s side of the Animoosh, Deanna Clark of Madison, Wis., won the two-dog race in 30:59.8 and Sharon Hughes of Verona, Wis., won the one-dog race in 37:00.9.
Marquette’s Andrew Grosvenor took first in the 10K snowshoe race from Forestville to the Dome in 48:39.7. He and Jacob Thurner (53:22.7) of Wauwatosa, Wis., were the only two competitors to finish in under an hour. Gwinn’s Ronald Tervo won the 55-64 age group and took third overall in 1:02:35.3.
For the women, Cindy Harwood of Houghton won the 10K snowshoe in 1:06:12.0. Ishpeming’s Pamela Malmsten took second (1:07:12.9) and Marquette’s Adrianne Wolf (1:07:56.7) was third.
