Prep boys basketball: Republic-Michigamme falls a quarter short of upsetting Bark River-Harris
REPUBLIC – Republic-Michigamme was a quarter away from a big upset before Bark River-Harris rallied to take a 50-43 victory in a high school boys basketball game on Saturday afternoon.
The Hawks, 4-7 overall and 1-7 in the Skyline Conference, led 35-32 after three quarters before self-destructing in the final eight minutes, according to R-M coach Bill Radcliffe.
“We were playing really well through the end of the third quarter,” he said, “but then we let it slip away in the fourth. We had some bad passes and started rushing some shots.”
The Broncos, who improved to 8-4 overall and 5-3 in the Skyline, missed their big body, Brendan Willa, who was injured in the second quarter.
“Not having his presence made a big difference,” Radcliffe said. “He got his hands on a lot of rebounds.”
R-M senior David Simula scored a game-high 14 points, while junior teammate Marcus Antilla added 13 and another junior, Philip Koski pulled in a team-high 13 rebounds to go with scoring eight points.
Kyle Kleiman paced BR-H with 13 points, while Jordan Sodergren added 12 and Troy Teeple 10.
The Broncos also won the JV game, 68-30.
