Patrick “Bear” Treloar

EATON RAPIDS, MI. – Patrick “Bear” Treloar passed away Saturday January 11th, 2014 at the age of 48 while on vacation with his wife and best friend Colleen in Orlando, Fl. They were there for their annual getaway from the harsh winters of their home in Eaton Rapids, MI.

Patrick was born and raised in Negaunee, MI and was proud of his Yooper heritage. Patrick obtained his Bachelor’s of Science in Business from Northern Michigan University and his Master’s of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from MSU. Despite his alma mater, he was a diehard U of M fan.

Patrick faced adversity each day having been in a car accident at the age of 17, rendering him a quadriplegic. Ever the huntsman, Patrick’s first words following his accident were, “Will I be able to hunt again?” With the help of family and friends, Patrick was able to overcome being wheelchair-bound in order to maintain and further cultivate his passion for hunting and the great outdoors.

Patrick found that life could still be rich and adventurous, despite any physical setbacks. This was a lesson he shared with everyone he knew.

He was a proud father of Dani Willcutt; brothers, John I, and Robert (Suzy) Treloar; many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are parents Peggy and Bill Treloar and brother Willy.

A memorial commemorating Patrick’s life will follow later this year. Arrangements were entrusted to the Shelly-Odell Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids, MI.

Contributions can be made in Patrick’s memory to, Mary Free Bed Wheelchair and Adaptive Sports Program.
