2 injured in SUV, logging truck crash

MARQUETTE – Two people were treated for minor injuries at Marquette General Hospital Thursday after a crossover sport utility vehicle and logging truck collision on Wright Street in Marquette.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s office said the accident was reported at 3:15 p.m. and occurred north of Forestville Road.

According to police, Kendra Kemp, 18, of downstate Williamston was driving a KIA Sorrento north on Wright Street when she lost control of the SUV and crashed into a southbound Holli Forest Products logging truck driven by David Kari, 67, of Ishpeming.

Kari told police he saw the passenger vehicle sliding sideways at him in his lane of travel. He attempted to avoid a head-on collision by veering to the right, jack-knifing the logging truck. The driver’s side of the KIA crashed into the driver’s side of the tractor of the logging truck, police said.

Kemp was extricated from her vehicle by Marquette Township fire and rescue personnel. Kemp and her passenger, Linnea Frankie, 19, of Houghton, were taken to the emergency room at Marquette General by Marquette General EMS. Both were treated and released

Occupants of both vehicles were wearing safety belts, police said.

Deputies were assisted by Michigan State Police troopers, Marquette Township fire and rescue and Marquette General EMS.
