Elizabeth L. ‘Betsy – Liz’ Vadnais

MARQUETTE, MI. – Elizabeth L. “Betsy – Liz” Vadnais, age 58, of Marquette, entered eternal life Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at her home, following a brief illness.

Liz was born July 3, 1955 in Marquette, a daughter of William J. and Betty (Lundquist) Brisson, Sr. She was raised in Marquette and was a 1973 graduate of the Marquette Senior High School, where she was very athletic, participating in gymnastics. softball, and volleyball. Liz first met David Vadnais at the Vadnais family camp in Big Bay and, at first sight, Dave remarked to his father that he was going to marry her. The couple was married at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Marquette on February 16, 1974. Liz worked at the A & P Store until its closure, and later enrolled at Northern Michigan University where she received her Associate Degree in Business. She then worked for a time at the Medical Center before remaining at home as homemaker and mom. Growing up, the children enjoyed summer camping and in the winter, snowmobiling and fun. After the children were mostly raised, Liz enrolled at the Jacobetti Skill Center and became a licensed cosmetologist, working at Studio 3 and Changes before retiring due to disability in 2008. To Liz, family was everything and always came first. Now, again, she was a stay at home homemaker and mom and enjoyed the time she could spend with daughter, Chelsie, and Katie and Paul’s baby girl, her new granddaughter, Ava. Liz was the heart and soul of her family, always generous with her time and talent, giving of herself to others before thinking of herself. She was always there for her girls, whether dispensing advice, serving as babysitter, loan officer, or friend, just being the best mom ever to her children. That was the relationship she fostered and loved. Probably because her birthday was the day before, Liz’s favorite holiday was the Fourth of July, however, all holidays were big events in the Vadnais household. Liz made sure that coloring Easter eggs, carving pumpkins, and decorating for Christmas were all family activities which created a myriad of memories for her loved ones. During these times, the children came home and “moved in” for a few days, even though she hinted that the optimum would be for them all to move in – permanently, the house was big enough. Liz and Dave were married almost 40 years, and their time together was filled with ups and downs, which they weathered together through a mutual sense of commitment and love. Liz was a very determined young woman who went after her goals. In her leisure, she enjoyed going on Harley rides with Dave and spending time with the kids. She loved going to the beach and shopping, shopping, shopping, be it grocery, clothing, or accessory shopping – she thoroughly enjoyed it! She loved good food and going out to dine, and was nicknamed “Chef One” by her family. Her other interests included playing cribbage with Dave and being a devoted Packer fan, with Dave often cheering for the opposing team just to get her going.

Liz is survived by her husband, David; daughters, Katie (Paul) Schoonveld and their daughter, Ava; and Chelsie Vadnais all of Marquette; her siblings, Bill (Barb) Brisson, Jr of Marquette, Jane Brisson of AuTrain, Julie Brennan of Green Bay, WI, Kathie (Ted) Thill of Marquette, and Pat (Jim) Landsparger of Bloomfield, CO; several nieces and nephews.

Liz was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, Jan Brisson.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Fassbender Funeral Home on Monday, January 27, beginning at 12:00 noon until the time of service at 2:00 pm. Rev. Msgr.
