Noque watching a great way to spend weekend
Welcome to all participants in the Noquemanon Ski Marathon.
It’s one of the best events that takes place all year in the Marquette area. Through the years, the Noque has evolved to not only provide cross country skiers with one of the most beautiful, competitive races in the country, but an event that includes skijoring, snowshoeing and snow biking.
Noque action started Thursday night with the Torch Light Trek at Al Quaal Recreation Area in Ishpeming. Hosted by the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame, the Torch Light Trek provides younger children the opportunity to give cross country skiing a try.
Today, the Junior Noque takes place beginning at the Forestville Trailhead in Marquette starting at 4 p.m., offering youngsters a taste of skiing competition.
Then a ski expo is set to begin at 5 p.m. today at the Superior Dome. The dome also will be the site for the Friday Night Pasta Feed, with tickets at $11.50 for adults and $7.50 for children under 10.
Saturday is the busiest day, with ski races on a number if links beginning from various locations throughout the morning, the 50K bike race starting at 1 p.m. and the 15 mile snowshoe event starting at 1:10 p.m.
The awards ceremony for many of these events will be at 4 p.m. at the Superior Dome.
Then Sunday, snow bike races and skijoring – in which a skier is pulled by a one-dog or two-dogs team – will take place.

It’s an amazing weekend of activity for our area. We must thank all the volunteers who give of their time to make the Noquemanon possible.
Again, welcome to all participants. We hope you’re made to feel welcome to the area, in which winter sports, especially skiing, always have been a huge part of life.
After all, Ishpeming is the birthplace of skiing in America and home to the U.S. National Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame.
The Noquemanon is a chance for the Marquette area to shine in the national spotlight. We welcome that attention as we know visitors will be impressed by how much we have to offer.
