NMU football: Wildcats release 2014 schedule
MARQUETTE – An extra game and a familiar rival for Homecoming are among the features of Northern Michigan University’s football schedule for next fall.
The Wildcats will play 11 games – all on Saturdays – this season after playing 10 last fall, the extra game being a nonconference encounter at Quincy University in Quincy, Ill. The Hawks play in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and are in the same region as Northern for playoff purposes. Quincy will travel to Marquette for the 2015 season.
“Our schedule is both a challenging and exciting one,” NMU head coach Chris Ostrowsky said. “We are thrilled to be playing an 11-game Division II schedule and have an exciting home schedule lined up including a homecoming game vs. rival Michigan Tech at the Superior Dome.”
Homecoming will be at 7 p.m. on Sept. 27, the Wildcats’ fourth game of the year.
NMU’s schedule features 10 GLIAC games, opening with a home game against Northwood at 7 p.m. on Sept. 6. There are no open weekends with games played each Saturday through mid-November.
The three other home games in October and November will start at 1 p.m.
Each home game has a special theme or themes. The Sept. 6 opener against the Timberwolves is Fan Appreciation and NMU Student Night, Oct. 18 vs. Wayne State is Family Weekend and 60th annual Band Day, Nov. 1 against Walsh is Veterans Day and the season-ending contest on Nov. 15 against Findlay is Senior Day.
Following Quincy in Week 2, road games are set for 1 p.m. Sept. 20 at Hillsdale, 7 p.m. Oct. 1 at Saginaw Valley State, Oct. 11 at Malone, Oct. 25 at Ashland and Nov. 8 at Ferris State. Starting times are yet to be determined for the final three away contests.
