NICE board adjusts Career Technical Education forms

ISHPEMING – At its meeting Monday the NICE school board approved minor changes to school forms for the district’s Career Technical Education Program.

The changes were suggested by the U.S. Department of Education Office of Civil Rights, which audits CTE programs, to ensure that Westwood High School’s program doesn’t inadvertently discriminate against students interested in enrolling in one of the CTE courses.

At Westwood, the program includes all business classes as well as courses for industrial education, building trades and welding.

In other action, the board elected officers for the year and took care of other organization items. All the officers from last year will remain in their positions for 2014.

The board also designated Thrun Law Firm to continue to provide the legal services to the district, Integrated Designs Inc. as its engineering and architectural firm and Anderson, Tackman and Co. PLC for its tax and accounting services.
