NMU hockey: Wildcats’ Siemer named WCHA Rookie of the Week

MARQUETTE – Forward John Siemer of Northern Michigan University has been named the WCHA Rookie of the Week following his performance against Alaska last weekend.

A freshman from Baldwin Park, Calif., Siemer led NMU with four points, scoring his first two collegiate goals and assisting on two more against the Nanooks. Siemer put four shots on goal and had a plus-3 rating.

In the Wildcats’ 5-4 victory over Alaska on Friday, Siemer scored NMU’s fourth goal in the game on a power play at 5:43 of the third period, pushing Northern to a 4-2 advantage after Alaska had closed to within one goal just 2:24 earlier.

He then assisted on the Wildcats’ first two goals in the first period on Saturday, giving NMU a 2-0 lead.

After Alaska scored four goals to go up 4-2, Siemer netted an extra-attacker goal at 18:33 of the third period to pull NMU to within one.

Siemer, who joined NMU after the break, has five points with two goals and three assists over his first four games and is plus-3.
