Robert L. Hicks

ISHPEMING, MI. – Robert L. Hicks, age 79, of 125 York St. Ishpeming passed away Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Marquette Co. Medical Care Facility where he had resided since October of 2011.

Bob was born August 27, 1934 in Michigamme, the son of the late Leonard G. and Dorothy (Brosius) Hicks. He was a graduate of the St. Paul’s High School, Class of 1954. He married the former Shirley Anderson on September 1, 1956 at the First Methodist Church of Ishpeming, and together they raised their family. Bob had worked as a diesel mechanic for Lake Shore, Inc. for many years. He had attended Bay de noc community college and received a degree as a pharmacy technician. Bob spent many years as a custodian at the Ishpeming High School, retiring in 1996.

Bob had served in the Michigan National Guard. He was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and the Wesley Methodist Chancel Choir along with the Negaunee Male Chorus. Bob also had been a member of the following clubs and organizations Red Fox Golf Club, Wawonowin Country Club, Ishpeming Elks and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife Shirley Hicks of Ishpeming, his children Robert L. Hicks Jr. of Huntsville, AL, Dale M. (Jodi) Hicks of Denver, CO, Ann Marie Peterson (Doug Heliste) of Ishpeming and Lisa M. Nault of Ishpeming, 6 sisters Patricia Dishaw of Kingsford, Catherine (Eugene) Keto of Ishpeming, Nancy Albright of Marquette, Dolores (Dennis) Carlson of Marquette, Diane Morcom (Gerald) of Gwinn, and Marjorie Williams of Fort Wright, KY, 5 brothers Frederick (Erica) Hicks of Colorado Springs, CO, James Hicks of Abilene, TX, David (Donna) Hicks of Abilene, TX, Arvid (Marcia) Ilves of Ishpeming, and Bruce Ilves of Ishpeming, grandchildren Brandon (Jennifer) Nylander, Ashley Nylander (Jon Ripperdan), Stephanie (Gary) Phillips, Brian (Sarah) Hicks, Aaron Nault, Kevin Hicks, Cody Nault, Austin Peterson and Jacob Peterson, great grandchildren Noah Nylander, Savanah Murphy, Kanada Hicks, Madison Nylander and Paelynn Nylander.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Dorothy Swindell a son-in-law Paul Nault and a daughter-in-law Kathy Hicks.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 12:00noon 2:00pm on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming. A memorial service will follow at 2:00pm on Tuesday at the Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Lindenberg to officiate. Inurnment will take place in the Wesley Church Memorial Garden in the spring. Coffee and sweets will be served following the service in the church hall.
