Prep hockey: Marquette skates to 2-2 tie against Hancock

MARQUETTE – Luke Schwemin scored early in the third period Saturday to give Marquette Senior High School a 2-2 overtime tie with Hancock in a Great Lakes Hockey Conference game at Lakeview Arena in Marquette.

“He scored on a rebound of his own shot,” MSHS coach Doug Garrow said. “It was a hard-fought, physical game.”

Alex Zerbel also scored for the Redmen (3-7-4 overall, 2-3-3 GLHC). who trailed 2-0 in the second period.

We had a couple of mistakes that cost us early,” Garrow said. “We just didn’t get the breaks early on.

“We played well, but we just can’t find that third, fourth or fifth goal.

“We have to find ways to get the puck in the net.”

Alex Hill and Dan Hill scored for Hancock.

Bulldogs goaltender Jacob Givens made 24 saves; MSHS netminder Johnny Beckman came up with 21 stops.
