Rumney Memorial features 85-plus skiers in races at Marquette Mountain

MARQUETTE – More than 85 youth racers from Marquette Mountain, Pine Mountain in Iron Mountain and Mont Ripley near Houghton and Hancock competed at the Pepp Motors Rumney Memorial downhill ski race at Marquette Mountain on Jan. 4.

Medals were awarded to the top three in each age group in slalom and giant slalom events, based on the two best times in three runs for each racer. Younger racers competed on a Rocket Run course, while older skiers competed on Cliffs Ridge.

Pepp Motors sponsored the event in memory of Christian Rumney, a Marquette Senior High School skier who died in an automobile accident in 1986.
