Prep wrestling: Escanaba tops U.P. poll

MARQUETTE – Escanaba High School has been ranked No. 1 in the first Upper Peninsula Wrestling Coaches Association poll of the season.

The Eskymos are a unanimous pick of the five association coaches who voted. Gladstone is second with 20 poll points. Norway is ranked third with 15, followed by Sault Ste. Marie with nine and Marquette with six.

“I’m proud of our kids to be ranked in the top 5,” Marquette coach Tony Gentz said. “Coming into the season, I wasn’t sure how would rate in the U.P.

“To be ranked fifth shows all the hard work they’re putting into the season.”
