Prep swimming: Marquette tops Westwood swimmers, divers
ISHPEMING – Marquette Senior High School’s boys and girls swimming and diving teams dominated a dual meet at Westwood on Tuesday.
The MSHS boys took a 119-51 decision, while the Redettes claimed a 129-55 victory.
Sam Williams and Nathan Rotundo led the Marquette boys, each taking two individual events among 11 total team wins.
Williams claimed the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.94) and 100 butterfly (1:00.68); Rotundo placed first in the 500 freestyle (5:34.18) and 100 breaststroke (1:09.10). Both also swam on two winning relay units.
Skyler Dakota claimed Westwood’s only triumph, that coming in the 100 free (57.53).
In the girls’ meet, Logan Vear and Janelle Carroll sparked the Redettes. Vear posted individual wins in the 200 free (2:13.59) and 100 butterfly (1:11.22); Carroll took the 50 free (29.22) and 500 free (6:03.16).
Both also swam on two victorious relay units.
Mya Maanika produced Westwood’s lone triumph, that coming in diving with 149.15 points.
“Marquette has a lot of depth and numbers (of participants),” Westwood coach Kelli Pfiester said.
“But all of our swimmers dropped times and set personal bests. We’re getting better as individuals and as a team.”
