Eagle Mine has new general manager

HUMBOLDT – The Lundin Mining Corp. has named Michael Welch as general manager of the Eagle Mine.

Welch – who began his new position with Lundin effective Jan. 6 – has more than two decades of combined operations and project management experience, according to a Lundin press release issued this afternoon.

“I’m very pleased that Michael has accepted our offer to lead Eagle Mine,” Paul McRae, Lundin’s senior vice president projects said in a release. “I look forward to the commencement of operations in Quarter 4, 2014 with Michael guiding the team.”

Welch was most recently responsible for Glencore Xstrata’s Raglan nickel operations in Quebec and he

previously served as project director on the successful construction and startup of the Nickel Rim South

project in Sudbury, Ont., the release said.

Welch holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in geology.

“My family and I are excited to be a part of the community and the Eagle team,” Welch said in the release. “Guided by Lundin’s business principles, Eagle will be a safe, disciplined operation that promotes local jobs and protects the environment.”
