Prep skiing: Marquette boys take first at Boyne, girls finish sixth

BOYNE – The Marquette Senior High School boys alpine ski team took first at the Harbor Petoskey Inviational at Boyne Highlands on Wednesday with 47 points while the girls placed sixth with 197.

The MSHS boys placed four racers in the top 10 of the giant slalom, led by Luke Johnson’s second-place finish with a combined time of 1 minute, 8.21 seconds over the course of two runs. Dylan Larson was fifth (1:09.44), Bradley Seaborg was sixth (1:09.89) and Joe Webber was seventh (1:09.90).

Seaborg won the slalom in 1:15.06 with Webber taking second in 1:15.53. Johnson finished fifth (1:16.34) and Larson was 19th (1:23.30).

For the MSHS girls, Gabby Gencheff took first in the slalom (1:19.52) and giant slalom (1:08.77) to lead the Redettes. Teammate Hanna Johnson nabbed fifth in the giant slalom (1:13.88) and 11th in the slalom (1:31.99) while Samantha Zigler came in 19th in the slalom (1:35.41).

Traverse City Central won the 12-school girls meet with 74 points.
