Clarence J. ‘Cuddy’ L’Huillier

MARQUETTE, MI. – Clarence J. “Cuddy” L’Huillier, 81, of Marquette, passed away early Sunday morning, January 5, 2014 at Marquette General Hospital.

Cuddy was born on February 1, 1932 in Marquette, a son of the late Clarence J. and Helen (Connors) L’Huillier and was a lifelong Marquette resident. He was a 1950 graduate of Bishop Baraga High School.

On September 7, 1951, Cuddy began working for the L.S. & I. Railroad and retired 43 years later as a congineer on November 24, 1994.

Active all of his life, he played softball until the age of 70. His other interests included hunting, fishing, bowling, and playing cards. He also loved to operate his snow blower. Cuddy was known to be a great handyman and always helpful to his neighbors. He was a member of St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette.

Survivors include his wife, the former Kathryn M. “Kitty” Spehar whom he married on October 23, 1954 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Big Bay; four children, Richard L’Huillier of Panama City, FL, Wendy (Tim) December of Rochester Hills, MI, Jeff L’Huillier of Canton, MI, and Susan (Joel) Scarbrough of Plainfield, IL; two grandchildren, Nicole December and Sydney Scarbrough; a sister, Rita Van de Zande of Marquette; one sister-in-law, Betty L’Huillier of Marquette; also many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death besides his parents was a son Michael L’Huillier in 1960 and a brother, Charles L’Huillier.

Friends may call at the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home on Thursday from 3 p.m. until the time of services in the funeral home at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber officiating. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery. A luncheon will take place immediately following the service in the funeral home reception area.

Honorary bearers will be Jack Parent, Paul Aird, Barry Marietta and Ron Lemire.
