Doris Jane ‘Dolly’ Linna

SKANDIA, MI. – Doris Jane “Dolly” Linna, age 80, of West Branch Township, entered eternal life Tuesday morning, December 31, 2013, at Marquette General Hospital, in the loving, comforting care of her family.

Doris was born November 25, 1933 in Amasa, a daughter of Uno and Edna (Koivisto) Lakso. Known as “Dolly”, she was a graduate of the Iron River High School, Class of 1951 and, following graduation, went to work at the Amasa Co-op.

It was there she met Olaf “Ollie” Linna and on June 12, 1954 the couple was married and resided in Iron River for about 12 years. They then lived in Rock for three years before moving to Skandia where they raised their family. While residing in Rock, Dolly began working as a court reporter for the US Government at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base, a position she held until her retirement in 1990.

Ollie and Dolly enjoyed living in the country, growing their own gardens, and pursuing family traditions like cooking, canning, and crocheting. Dolly was an active member of the Sion Lutheran Church in Chatham and belonged to the Sweet Adelines.

A loving wife, mother, proud grandmother, and aunt, Dolly is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Olaf “Ollie” Linna; a daughter, Lori (Richard) Linna-Cooke and son, Larry (Beth) Linna both of Skandia; her grandchildren, Hans Linna and Elsa Linna of Marquette; sister-in-law, LaVerne Lakso of Wisconsin; two nieces, Karen and Cindy; two nephews, John and Scott; and many friends. In addition to her parents, Dolly was preceded in death by an infant sister, Beverly; and brothers, John and Donald Lakso.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the Sion Lutheran in Chatham on Friday, January 3, from 11:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 noon. Rev. Paul Kelto will officiate and spring burial will be made in the West Branch Township Cemetery. A reception will follow services at the church on Friday.
