Mary J. Haglund

MARQUETTE – Mary J. Haglund, age 72, of Marquette, entered eternal life Saturday morning, December 21, 2013, at her home, in the loving, comforting care of her family.

Mary was born April 8, 1941, in Marquette, a daughter of Adolph and Alice (Vadnais) Swenor, and was a lifelong Marquette resident. A homemaker, Mary enjoyed porcelain collectibles and her collection included dishes, spoons, plates, bells, and figurines. She and husband, Oscar, also enjoyed snowmobiling in the winter and taking rides around the Marquette area year round. Her grandchildren were very special to her and she treasured time spent with them.

A loving wife, mother, devoted grandmother, and sister, Mary is survived by her husband, “Oscar” Eugene Haglund; her daughter, Tina Swanson; son, Jim Haglund all of Marquette; her three grandchildren, Kyle Winters, Kaylie and Samantha Washburn; sisters, Shirley (the late, Howard) Koepp, Betty (Jack) Bellanger, Joyce (Jim) Constance, and Lois (Marvin) Gibson all of Marquette; a brother, Robert (Margaret) Swenor of Marquette; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Swenor of Gwinn and Betty Swenor of Marquette; a special niece, Lisa (Steve) Morgan of Plymouth, WI; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a son, Michael; sisters, Florence (the late, Adolph) Gezella, Rosemary (the late, Michael) Walin, and Nancy Swenor; and brothers, James (the late, Betty Lou) Swenor, Louis (the late, Mary Ann) Swenor, William R. Swenor, and Donald Swenor.

Friends may call at the Swanson-Lundquist Funeral Home on Friday, December 27, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 pm Friday with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating. A reception will follow in the reception area located at the funeral home. Burial will be made in the Holy Cross Cemetery in the spring with family members serving as escorts.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Lake Superior Hospice for their care and many kindnesses extended to Mary and the family, with special thanks to Mike, Kelly, Kara, and Natalie.
