BARAGA, MI. – Doris Lucille Dompier, age 74, of Baraga, Michigan, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, after her battle with cancer. Her passing was peaceful with all three sons by her side holding her hands.
Doris was born in Negaunee, Michigan on September 7, 1939, to the late William and Julia (Elfbrandt) Maki of Watton. She attended school in L’Anse, where she graduated in 1957. That same year, she married John “Patrick” Duguay, who passed away in 1965.
In 1969, while working at the Baraga County Treasury, Doris met James (Jim) Dompier. They were married on August 15, 1970, and spent the next wonderful 43 years together.
Jim preceded her in death earlier this year, January 2013.
Over the years, Doris was a leader in 4-H and spent her time volunteering at various places including St. Vincent de Paul in L’Anse, which she loved doing. In her spare time, she enjoyed working on crossword puzzles, watching the chickadees, chipmunks and squirrels, and spending time with her family.
Doris is survived by her loving sons, Patrick Duguay of Baraga, Paul and Mark Dompier of Minneapolis, daughter-in-law Diane Duguay of Minneapolis, brother Clarence (Karen) Maki of Waukesha, WI, sisters Phyllis (Donald) Boyer of L’Anse and Kathy (Tracy) Pennock of Campe Verde, AZ, and many wonderful brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you please consider a donation in Doris’ name to the L’Anse St. Vincent de Paul (14 S. Main St., L’Anse MI 49946).
A graveside service will be conducted in Spring 2014, where she and Jim will be laid to rest together.
Merry Christmas, Mom. We love you and miss you!
