MAPS honors educators, teams
MARQUETTE – Several educators and athletes were acknowledged by the Marquette Area Public Schools Board of Education Monday night during a special reception held for MAPS Education Foundation grant award recipients as well as for the boys and girls cross country teams and the high school’s boys soccer team.
The foundation grants varied from using Kindles for students with reading disabilities to helping finance the “Shrek: The Musical” to using Google Chromebooks in the district’s high school.
In other action, the board heard a report from the district’s Human Resources department and an update on the district’s capital projects and improvements need – which total more than $10 million.
The board also heard an update on strategic planning.
The board voted unanimously to accept an annual resolution regarding the city of Marquette’s summer tax levy, and also unanimously passed a slew of updated or new district policies, including policies on criminal history record checks, animals on district property and public attendance at school events, to name a few.
The “Iran Economic Sanction Act Compliancy” policy, which would be new to the district, was pulled from the slate of updates to allow time for further consultations with district attorneys.
