Prep wrestling: Marquette splits at Kingsford vs. Flivvers, Norway

KINGSFORD – Though six Marquette Senior High School wrestlers won both their matches Monday night, the Redmen had to settle for a split in a meet held in Kingsford.

The Redmen routed Kingsford, 61-12, but lost to Norway, 42-29.

“Norway’s a good squad and for us to score 29 points against them, I’m pretty happy,” MSHS coach Tony Gentz said.

Marquette wrestlers who went 2-0 with a pin each were Brian Helmer at 152 pounds, Ricky Baker at 171 and Per Rahm at 215. Hunter Moore also won both his bouts – one by a technical fall – while teammates Cole Arntsen at 125 and Beau Caster at 140 went 2-0.

“Those were Arntsen’s first two high school wins,” Gentz said. “He’s only a sophomore and he tasted some success tonight.”
