Prep girls basketball: Munising takes down Engadine with hot start
ENGADINE – Outscoring host Engadine 14-5 in the opening quarter, the Munising High School girls basketball team beat the Eagles 49-36 on Monday night in nonconference play.
“We played well the first half,” Mustangs head coach Matt Mattson said, noting his squad held a 29-20 advantage at the break. “We put some pressure on (Engadine) and got some easy buckets (as a result).
“Melissa (Immel) scored 11 points and Frankie (Mattson, the coach’s daughter) had 10.”
Frankie Mattson finished with a game-high 17 points and Immel added 15 for the Mustangs (3-1). Mattson also brought down 11 rebounds.
Kassie Metcalf notched 12 points to pace Engadine (2-3).
“(The Eagles) made some buckets and we committed some fouls in the second quarter,” coach Mattson said. “But the other three quarters, I was happy with.”
Munising won the junior varsity game, 52-39.
