Michael Scott Haupt

BIG BAY, MI – Michael Scott Haupt, age 65, of Big Bay, entered eternal life Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at his home.

Born May 12, 1948 in Marquette, a son of George and Betty (Swanson) Haupt, Mike was raised in Big Bay and was a graduate of the Graveraet High School Class of 1966. Following graduation, he worked for a time with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, stationed at the Porcupine Mountains. Returning to the area, he began a long employment at the Presque Isle Power Plant, working for both UPPCO and then Wisconsin Energies as a water plant operator, until his retirement. Mike’s hobbies and special interests included a love of four-wheeling, motorcycling on his Harley, hunting, and fishing, especially ice fishing. He was a member of the Marquette Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. 405, and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 510.

Survivors include his daughter, Georgiana (Marc) Kester of Cedarville, MI; adopted daughter, Michelle DeRoche of Lincoln Park, MI; his twin grandsons, Jack Alan Kester and Charlie Scott Kester of Cedarville, MI; his mother, Betty Haupt of Las Vegas, NV; a sister, Nancy (Jack) Hyland of Grass Lake, MI; and brothers, George (Janice) Haupt and Richard Haupt both of Las Vegas; NV; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mike was preceded in death by his father.

Honoring Mike’s request, private family services will be held at a later date.

The family would like to express their appreciation to Powell Township EMS, caregiver, Paulette Beerman, and cousin, Peter TenEyck for their many kindnesses and assistance extended to Mike and his family.
