Gladys J. Bartol

SANDS TOWNSHIP, MI. -Gladys J. Bartol, age 85, of Sands Township, entered eternal life Wednesday morning, December 11, 2013, at home, in the loving, comforting care of her family and caregivers.

Gladys was born April 10, 1928 in Forest Lake, a daughter of John and Antonia (Mikulich) Bartol, and was raised in Traunik. She graduated from the Eben High School in 1945 and later began nurse’s training at the Francis Payne Bolton School of Nursing in Cleveland, Ohio, receiving her nursing diploma in 1950. She was a member of a class of six students, the last class to graduate from the school at that time. In 1957, Gladys entered the US Air Force, beginning a career in nursing that would span 20 years.

She retired from the Air Force in 1977 while stationed at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base.

Gladys is survived by her sister-in-law, Sylvia Bartol of Munising; her nieces and nephews, Marcia (Sam) Health of Denver, NC, Barbara (Roger) Koski of Eau Claire, WI, Robert Bartol of Munising, and Jon (Angela) Bartol of Suamico, WI; eight great nieces and nephews, seven great great nieces and nephews; and several cousins. In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary “Mayme” and husband, Jack Mejac, and Angela and husband, Louis Knaus; and brothers, John Bartol, Robert Bartol, and Frank Bartol and wife, Angela.

Honoring Gladys’ request, no services will be scheduled. Private inurnment will be made in the Mathias Township Cemetery, Trenary, in the spring.
