Prep wrestling: Marquette, Negaunee split in quadrangular meet

MARQUETTE – Negaunee and host Marquette split their prep wrestling matches Thursday night.

The Miners lost to Marquette, 50-18, before taking a 36-30 triumph over Iron Mountain.

“We’re a young squad with only 11 wrestlers,” Negaunee head coach Brad Saatio said. “Six of them are first-year wrestlers.

“But we’ll be all right for the season.”

Brody Rosten at 140 pounds, Dylan Mihelac at 160 and Jamie Collins at heavyweight all posted two wins apiece for the Miners. Mihelac and Collins each recorded a pin.

Marquette, which lost to Gladstone, 59-11, got two wins each from Tyler Teneyck at 112 and Hunter Moore at 130. Moore’s victories were a pin and a technical fall.

“Under the circumstances, with these being our first matches, we wrestled well,” MSHS coach Tony Gentz said. “We have a lot of work to do, but overall, the effort was pretty good.”
