Prep swimming roundup: Ishpeming-Negaunee splits home meet against Kingsford

NEGAUNEE – Winning nine events, the Ishpeming-Negaunee girls prep swimming and diving team beat visiting Kingsford on Tuesday, 89-85.

In the boys meet, the Flivvers turned the tables on the Miners for a 95-81 triumph.

Liesl Flannery and Kendra Tervo claimed two individual wins apiece for Ishpeming-Negaunee. Flannery won the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 41.47 seconds) and the 500 free (7:20.16); Tervo won the 100 free (1:09.53) and the 100 backstroke (1:20.62).

Tervo also swam with the victorious 200 medley relay (2L31.53) and the 400 free relay (5:08.94) – the latter event with Flannery.

In the boys’ contest, Adam Lohman of I-N claimed the 100 free (59.0) and swam on the winning 200 free relay unit (1:51.78).

In addition, Ricky Peterson of I-N won the 100 backstroke (1:06.96) and also swam a leg of the victorious 200 free relay squad.

WHS swept in Houghton

At Houghton, the Gremlins won the boys meet 124-85 and the girls meet174-56.

For the WHS boys, the 200-yard medley relay team of Gavin Ackland, Andre Materna, Nathen Nelson and Skyler Dakota took first with a time of 2:14.80.

Nelson, Hunter Roose, Fred Boburka and Dakota won the 200 freestyle relay as well in 1:51.40.

Nelson also won the 200 individual medley (2:34.30) and 100 backstroke (1:12.30) while Dakota won the 50 freestyle (26.01) and 100 freestyle (58.53).

Roose won the 100 breaststoke in 1:25.89.

For the Patriots’ girls, Mya Maanike won the 1-meter dive with a score of 168.95 points.
