Parade, tree lighting brighten Marquette
MARQUETTE – Lighted floats, a decorated Christmas tree and even a reindeer highlighted the Third Annual Marquette Winter Snow Fun Holiday Parade that traveled on Third Street to the Marquette Commons Thursday.
A bevy of floats, including one with Mayor Robert Niemi, ended at the commons where Santa Claus, event volunteers and the public watched the 38th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting.
A reindeer named Noel, penned at the commons, was a special attraction this year.
Lizzie Corser, marketing and administrative assistant for the Marquette Downtown Development Authority, said, “The reindeer was a new part of this event, so we’re very excited to have her.”
Pony rides also were available for the young set at the commons.
“It’s a great way to kick off the season in downtown Marquette,” Corser said.
Although the temperatures, as could be expected this time of year, were frigid, many families lined the streets for the parade and visited Santa.
“It was awesome,” said Paula Urcavich, who brought her son Isaac, 2, to the event.
