Junior hockey: Marquette Royales teaming up with U.P. Run for Life

MARQUETTE – The Marquette Royales Tier III junior hockey team will join U.P. Run for Life and the Superior Health Foundation for the inaugural Skate for Life weekend Friday and Saturday at Lakeview Arena.

The objective is to raise money to assist transplant patients in the Upper Peninsula with medical, prescription and mileage expenses.

The two-day event is part of a three-game Minnesota Junior Hockey League home series for the Royales against the Wisconsin Rampage.

“We’re honored to team with the Marquette Royales on this important event,” Skate for Life spokeswoman Amy Harju said. “The Royales have been a huge part in helping plan the event.”

Special Skate for Life shirts and pucks will be available for purchase. There will also be a silent auction featuring donations from businesses around the U.P. Some of the players’ jerseys will also be part of a live auction following Saturday night’s game while others are part of a silent auction online at www.marquetteroyales.com.

Immediately following Saturday night’s game, Royales fans can skate with the team. Fans can bring their own skates and kids must wear a helmet. Skates will be available for use, if needed.

The Royales are the top-seeded team in the Minnesota Junior Hockey League with a 23-2 record and a current 23-game winning streak, including 15 straight at Lakeview Arena.
