Richard Paul White

AUSTIN, TX. – Richard Paul White, age 59, of Austin, Texas, died Nov. 19 after losing his battle with cancer.

Rich was born April 27, 1954 in Ishpeming, the son of Peter Paul and Mary Ann White. He was a 1972 graduate of Negaunee High School. He was a hard and tireless worker all his life and held a variety of jobs, from truck driver to grocery store owner to working on an ore boat.

Rich loved music and was an accomplished drummer, playing in many bands from high school on. He also loved animals, and provided a loving home to a variety of adopted dogs and cats throughout his life. His other enthusiasms included Harley Davidson motorcycles and model railroads. He was a proud member of the Highland Clan Motorcycle Club. Rich had an unparalleled talent for telling true stories and making them hilarious. He had a kind heart and a wicked sense of humor; he will be missed.

Rich is survived by his longtime companion, Kathleen Surgeson, of Austin; a daughter, Sarah (Guy) Wallace of Harvey; granddaughter Samantha Seaman and grandson Ty Koski of Negaunee; a sister, Deb (Wayne Forrest) Pascoe of Marquette; nephew Daniel Pascoe of Marquette; nieces Melissa Pascoe of Minneapolis, Minn., and Jessica (Josey Aalto) Pascoe of Marquette; and great-nephew Ernest Aalto of Marquette.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial celebration for Rich will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Highland Clan Motorcycle Club, 207 Silver St., Negaunee. All who knew and loved Rich are invited to come and play music, share memories, and celebrate Rich’s life.
