John P. King

NEGAUNEE, MI. – John P. King, 73, formerly of Waucedah Township and South Basin Drive, Negaunee Township, died at 6:10 pm on Monday, November 25, 2013 at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living surrounded by his loving family.

John was born July 28, 1940 in Chicago, IL to Peter & Dorothy (Janssens) King and was a graduate of Vulcan High School, Class of 1957. He graduated from the Michigan State Police Academy, joined the State Police in 1966, was stationed at various posts throughout Michigan and retired as a Detective Sergeant from the Negaunee Post in 1992. Following his retirement he and his wife settled in Waucedah Township having served on the Waucedah Township Board from 1996-2009. They returned to the Negaunee area in 2011. His hobbies included spending time at his brother-in-law’s sawmill and following his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, and trapping.

Surviving are 2 sons: John (Paula) King of Rudyard, Tim (Joan) King of Negaunee, one daughter, Lorraine (Mike) Finnila of Negaunee, 9 grandchildren: Corie, Terin, Jeremy, Tim, and Erin King, Michael, John, Jesse (Bethany) and Courtney Finnila, 4 great grandchildren: Jarett, Ellis, and Hadley King, and Berkley Finnila, 3 brothers-in-law: Frank Hulce of Colorado, Lyle (Gloria) Hulce of Vulcan, Wayne (Mary) Hulce of Norway, 3 sisters-in-law: June Hirte and Lois Giuliani, both of Kingsford, and Nancy Hulce of Norway, numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 52 years, Pauline Macia (Hulce) King on July 8, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 30th at Mitchell United Methodist Church, Negaunee with Rev. Robert Dobson officiating. Mr. King’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 am until the time of services at 1:00 pm at the church on Saturday.
