NEGAUNEE, MI. – David (Dave) L. Kellan Sr., 65, of Negaunee, MI passed away peacefully on Monday November 18, 2013 at Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah, WI.

David was born in Ishpeming, MI on June 29, 1948 to Norman L. and Ruth L. (Kangas) Kellan. He is preceded in death by his brother, “Lee” Kellan and his father, Norman.

David is survived by his loving mother Ruth, sister Cynthia (Kellan) and husband Randy Wuorenmaa, sons David L. Kellan Jr. and wife Dara, Jarrett L. Kellan and wife Jill, and 10 grandchildren.

David graduated from Negaunee High School, after which he served, and received an honorable discharge from, the United States Army and Army National Guard, respectively, from 1969-1975. In the military his listed occupation was “cook” and he received the commendations “Expert (M-14)” rifle and “Expert (Hand Grenade)”. He also held a military qualification as a Marksman with the M-16 rifle.

As a profession, David carried on his father’s legacy as the owner/ operator of Kellan’s Jewelry, moving the store from downtown Negaunee to Ishpeming in the 1980’s. If one were to ask him; however, he would have wasted no time in saying that his true passions were simply hunting, fishing, and camping with his boys.

All who knew Dave personally both respected him and greatly enjoyed his lively companionship; where during most weekdays he could often be found in his “second office” at Buck’s Restaurant in downtown Ishpeming hanging out with “the crew”. He was known as a sportsman and true woodsman as he spent nearly all his free time with his two sons hunting and fishing throughout the central UP.

A memorial service will be held in David’s honor on Friday December 6, 2013 at Mitchell United Methodist Church in Negaunee. Informal visitation will be from 4-5pm with a formal service being performed by Pastor Doug Mater from 5-5:30pm. All who wish to pay their respects or visit with family members are welcome to attend.

David, you will forever be loved and are greatly missed.
