MARQUETTE, MI. – Frank Thomas, age 75, of Marquette, MI, formerly of Grand Rapids and Southfield, passed away on November 21, 2013 at U of M Medical Center after a short illness.
Frank served in U.S. Army, and went on to graduate from Aquinas College. He worked for Westinghouse Electric for 30 years. After retiring from Progress Electric in Oak Park, MI, he moved to his retirement home on the shores of Lake Superior.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys and Bert; four brothers, and one sister.
Surviving are his loving wife of 33 years, Jackie; children, Cynthia (Gary) Charnesky of Walled Lake, MI, Christine (Howard) Slugocki of Slatington, PA, Robyn (Tony) VanDorp of Alto, MI, Michael Newkirk of West Branch, MI, Patrick Newkirk of Fenton, MI; grandchildren, Brandon (Allison) Charnesky, Amanda (Mike) Horenziak, Eric (Jasmine) Charnesky, MacKenzie VanDorp, Benjamin VanDorp; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Ida Mae TerBeek, Ann (Jack) Kempker; mother-in-law, Ruth Irene Mariner; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Barbara (Mike) Butrick, Sandra Bala, Tim (Patricia) Mariner; numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Frank’s life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, at Stroo Funeral Home. At his request, interment will be in Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to UPAWS (Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter), St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or Circle of Friends – Pastoral Services Department at Hope Network.
